Saturday's are for... yard work.

This morning I awoke with the motivation to tackle my backyard flower beds. If you're wondering why it takes that sort of "you can do this, get it done" self-motivating talk, well, it's because I have a large backyard. Maybe not for some, but for a single gal living alone, it might as well be a national park. To say the previous owners neglected this once beautiful backyard, is an understatement. My next door neighbor is the sweetest older woman who has lived in her home, right next door, for over 50 years! Can you imagine? Anyways, she told me that my backyard was once a beautiful oasis of thick, lush grass, beautifully hedged bushes and meticulously manicured flowers. Sadly, when she moved away, the others that lived in the home weren't as fond of the work that it took to keep everything looking pristine. Flash forward about 15 years, and here I am, chopping, digging, shoveling, raking, and cursing my way through this behemoth of a yard. Though, today I set my sights on the flower beds only! After several hours and with sore hands and an aching body, I am proud to say that I accomplished my goal today! Everything is ripped out, raked clean, and ready for river rock. While I admire those yards that could rival the Secret Garden, my life and personal style calls for something a little more clean and easily maintainable. So, to all my weekend warriors out there, keep pushing on and enjoy looking out at all of your hard work while you enjoy a green beer. Happy St. Patrick's Day! Cheers
